Socialism with Chinese characteristics enters new era

Xi Jinping pointed out that “socialism with Chinese characteristics” was entering a new era. The General Secretary of the CPC Central Committee said it would be “an era of securing a decisive victory in building a “xiaokang” society, or a moderately prosperous society.

He added that it would also be “an era of moving on to all-out efforts to build a great, modern, socialist country.” A two-stage plan has been drawn up for the country’s long-term development. Until 2035, China will be working towards building a modern socialist country. China will then aim to be a prosperous, strong, democratic, culturally advanced, harmonious and beautiful country.

However, to meet this end, Xi Jinping stressed that China faces a worrying dilemma of being between “unbalanced and inadequate development and people’s ever-growing needs for a better life.” He said that filling this inequity gap was essential for the country’s future growth.
